OpenStudy (rissyroo118):

Flower color in a particular plant species is determined by one gene. The alleles of that gene can code for either red flowers or blue flowers. When two such plants are crossed, however, some of the offspring produce purple flowers. What is the genotype of the plants with purple flowers? an allele for red flowers on both homologous chromosomes two alleles for red flowers on one homologous chromosomes, and two alleles for blue flowers on the other. an allele for red flowers on one homologous chromosome and an allele for blue flowers on the other an allel

OpenStudy (abhisar):

What do you think it should be?

OpenStudy (rissyroo118):

D. AN ALLEL

OpenStudy (abhisar):

are you sure option D is complete?

OpenStudy (rissyroo118):

an allele for purple flowers on both homologous chromosomes*

OpenStudy (abhisar):

Nopes, Option D is wrong.

OpenStudy (abhisar):

Actually it happens in the case of Incomplete dominance. I this case the dominant allele is not able to suppress the recessive one completely and hence an intermediate phenotype is expressed. In this case purple is intermediate of blue and red.

OpenStudy (rissyroo118):

i wanna say the answer is B than
