Sunni Muslims make up the majority of modern Muslims. What do they believe about how leadership is handed down?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

God chooses each new Muslim leader. Descendants of Muhammad become Muslim leaders. The Muslim people should elect new leaders. New leaders are determined through war and conflict.

OpenStudy (confluxepic):

God cannot communicate with the Muslims so the first one is wrong. They don't believe in a family pass down so the second one is wrong. This can actually happen so this may be true. The third one is correct since it works in a government type of way. The Muslim people should elect new leaders. The people will elect their own leaders.
