Find x I got x= 10 or x=130. Which is correct?
I solved it by making 50=1/2(x+90) but I wasn't so sure so I made it 90=1/2(x+50) as well xD
http://www.regentsprep.org/Regents/math/geometry/GP15/CircleAngles.htm Take a look at #4
The angle is formed by two chords intersecting within a circle. This should work: 50=1/2(x+90)
@opern1112 >>> I got x= 10 or x=130. Which is correct? The correct answer comes from solving this: 50=1/2(x+90)
=30
I got 10 by solving the equation above...
How did you get 30??
Correct: I got 10 by solving the equation above...
So 10 is correct and 30 is wrong right?
Did 10 come from the formula attached here? That is what you wrote: The correct answer comes from solving this: 50=1/2(x+90)
Is x = 10 the answer to that equation?
yep...
That is what I got. At first, I was tricked by thinking that E is the center of the circle. Of course, it is not.
I may sound picky, but proper study of geometry requires us NOT to assume three points to be colinear even if they appear so. Same for lines that appear parallel, or angles that appear to be 90 degrees. I hope the question says somewhere that AC and BD are chords of the circle (meaning that AEC and BED are straight lines).
I agree. I also have observed that many mathematics assessment questions are poorly phrased and probably written by people without a strong mathematics background. And, then there is always the matter of whether the Asker posted all given information related to a question.
