I would maybe revise the structure at the end of the sentence, but "strike" is a quite professional term. Nor do I see any really big mistakes.

I would change the words "buddies" to 'friends" and "kicking it" to "hanging out" or "spending time with" and I would change "died laughing" to maybe "laughing hysterically." changing those words will make the sentence sound more "proper" as the question asked. I hope is right and I hope that helps. I had some thoughts on sentence structure but the question doesn't ask for that.
