Use elimination to find the solution to the system of equations.

OpenStudy (aripotta):

what do you think should be our first step?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

idk

OpenStudy (aripotta):

so using the elimination method, we want to eliminate a variable by combining the two equations. so, looking at the y's, we can see that we should multiply the first equation by 2, because by doing that, we'll have 2y on the top and -2y on the bottom, which would cancel the y

OpenStudy (aripotta):

soo 2(5x + y = 8) is 10x + 2y = 16

OpenStudy (aripotta):

now you want to combine the two equations. so what do you get once you combine them? 10x + 2y = 16 3x - 2y = 10

thxs I got it c

OpenStudy (aripotta):

yep :)
