Read the sentence below and complete the instruction that follows. My advisor, Mr. Burns, is helping me apply for scholarships specific to students who major in astronomy, the study of the universe. Identify the appositive phrase. astronomy Mr. Burns my advisor the study of the universe

OpenStudy (mikkel900):

The way I understand it. Appositive phrases are ones that take the place of another one. So if I say: Bob, the builder who (...) - Then, the noun is Bob and appositive phrase is the builder. Because, whether I say bob, or the builder, I talk about the same person. So in your examples. I think the appositive phrases are: Mr. Burns and the study of the universe. I hope somebody will be able to confirm this, as I am not entirely sure. I however believe it to be right.

The answer that I ended up putting was the study of the universe because I figured that it was renaming astronomy? I don't know. I get it all mixed up but hopefully its right. thanks.

OpenStudy (mikkel900):

I think there are two, but I am not entirely sure :) If there is only one, my best guess would be Mr, Burns. (go for that one)

Alright. thanks.
