Which of the following correctly uses absolute value to show the distance between –70 and 13?
|–70 – 13| = |–83| = –83 units
|–70 – 13| = |–83| = 83 units
|–70 + 13| = |–57| = 57 units
|–70 + 13| = |–57| = –57 units

? i dont understand
OpenStudy (anonymous):
d?
OpenStudy (michele_laino):
d is not possible, because an absolute value has to be always positive!
OpenStudy (anonymous):
When you're dealing with absolute values if you have a negative number it makes it positive and positive just stay positive.
OpenStudy (anonymous):
so then it could be b or c...

OpenStudy (michele_laino):
y is -70
OpenStudy (anonymous):
so then its -70 - 13 = -83
OpenStudy (michele_laino):
that's right!
OpenStudy (anonymous):
Yes, but remember it's in absolute value so it turns into a positive.
OpenStudy (anonymous):
oh so then its b
