this would be good for you to learn. There is a formula that will sove all percentage problems no matter how they are worded.
The formula is : is/of = %/100
Now read your problem and pay attention to the words.
What is 40% of 315
now sub info into the formula
what number can be represented as x
is/of = %/100
is = x
% = 40
of = 315
x/315 = 40/100 --- proportion, so we cross multiply
100x = (315)(40)
100x = 12600 -- divide both sides by 100
x = 12600/100
x = 126
so 40% of 315 = 126
And if your problem was : 315 is 40% of what number...you would set it up like this :
is/of = %/100
of = x
is = 315
% = 40
315/x = 40/100...you would then cross multiply
40x = 31500
x = 31500/40
x = 787.50
any percentage problem can be figured out with this formula
