So, now, can you interplret "double time"? And no, not times nine yet

40 hrs is a regular work week...anything over 40 hrs is overtime.
So his regular pay is 40 * 8.50. Now he has 9 hrs overtime and since they get paid double for overtime hrs, he gets paid (8.50 x 2) which is 17 per overtime hrs. So you would multiply 9 x 17 to get overtime pay. You would then add them together to get total pay
