The French Revolution was similar to when the American colonies applied the Enlightenment Ideas to the Declaration of Independence during the American revolution, however, obviously it was to France. But the reign of terror and end of the French Revolution by Napoleon and then him deeming himself Emperor did not allow France a true democracy for a long time. A better statement would be: The French Revolution reflected the currently popularized Enlightenment ideals.
