When a substance evaporates, what happens to the mass?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

The mass is still the same amount it was originally, just more spread out you could say. For example water, when a cup of water evaporates, the same amount of mass of water in that cup evaporates into the atmosphere. This is because matter can not be destroyed.

OpenStudy (abhisar):

Mass is conserved in state changes (i.e when it converts from liquid to gas, solid to liquid etc) and in chemical reactions. So the mass remains same. PS: FYI, Mass can be destroyed or converted into energy through nuclear reactions.
