Why was an exile considered lonely and vulnerable in Anglo-Saxon society? If a warrior was exiled, he was an easy target for marauders. Men who were thrown from society were doomed to be either beaten or ignored until they died. Outside of the relationship of comitatus, a man had no home, no protection, no lord.
