how would i find the distance between these two plotted points? http://media.apexlearning.com/Images/200705/24/04119059-3f6d-4d0b-b11b-cd82b4912d35.GIF

OpenStudy (dtan5457):

Link doesn't work

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok well the plotted points are (1,3), and (6,1)

OpenStudy (dtan5457):

OpenStudy (sleepyjess):

Are you familiar with the distance formula?

OpenStudy (dtan5457):

^^ right there

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes

OpenStudy (dtan5457):

Did you try plugging it in?

OpenStudy (sleepyjess):

Ok, so just plug your points into that and solve ^_^

OpenStudy (anonymous):

well, no not yet.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok i will! :)

OpenStudy (sleepyjess):

Where are you getting stuck?

OpenStudy (sleepyjess):

Or were you just not sure how to start?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i didnt know how to plug it in . i forgot what formula to use.

OpenStudy (sleepyjess):

Your points are 1,3 and 6,1. 1,3 = \(\sf x_1,y_1\) 6,1 = \(\sf x_2,y_2\)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so then would it look like (6-2)^2+(3-3)^2?

OpenStudy (sleepyjess):

Why 6-2?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oops i meant 6-1

OpenStudy (sleepyjess):

and 3-3?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh my word, im sorry..

OpenStudy (sleepyjess):

It's fine :D

OpenStudy (sleepyjess):

Do you know what it should be?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

it would be (6-1)^2(1-3)^2?

OpenStudy (sleepyjess):

Yes, don't forget the + in between though. \(\sf (6-1)^2~+~(1-3)^2\)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

right

OpenStudy (sleepyjess):

Can you solve from there?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes!! :) thank you!!

OpenStudy (sleepyjess):

\(\LARGE\cal\color{#ff0074}{No~Problem!}\\\bbox [10pt, #00ffab,border:5pt solid blue ]{\color{#872AF0}{\huge\cal ~\heartsuit sleepyjess\heartsuit}}\) Let me know what you get.

OpenStudy (haleyelizabeth2017):

and after you add them together, don't forget to square root. That's a part where a lot of people forget and it throws them off. Even if they were starting correctly :)

OpenStudy (sleepyjess):

Yes

OpenStudy (sleepyjess):

What did you come up with @pinkey ?
