Paul is 47 years old. His age is 2 more his daughter's age. How old is his daughter?

OpenStudy (dtan5457):

Same thing as before. paul:47 daughter:47-2 daughter:45 years old

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Oh wait, the question askes "2 more than 3 times his daughter's age"

OpenStudy (jhannybean):

Paul : x = 47 Daughter : y = x - 2 You could think of it that way too, I suppose.

OpenStudy (dtan5457):

lol i was about to say that would be too easy. then make an equation of 47=3x+2 solve that for x=15 check to see if it makes the equation true. 15 times 3=45 2 less than paul's

OpenStudy (haleyelizabeth2017):

So we will put 47 on one side of the equal sign. 47=.... and then on the other side, since he is 3 times his daughters age we put 3x. and 2 more is just plus 2. 47=3x+2

OpenStudy (dtan5457):

"2 more than 3 times his daughter's age" daughter:15 years old 15 times 3=45 paul is 2 years older than 3 times 15

OpenStudy (dtan5457):

so it works
