Why did J.R.R. Tolkien write The Hobbit and other stories of Middle-earth?

pooja195 (pooja195):

He got certain pleasure out of writing them and creating the fantasy world and the associated languages and he certainly liked the extra money it gave him. He started writing stories for his children. He had been creating make believe worlds since he was about 12. Someone had heard part of the story and they gave some of it to a publisher and they liked it and offered to pay him for it. Hope this helps! Also Welcome to Openstudy!
