Yes slavery has been done since the beginning of time, by different ethnics, tribes and races. 
However, having aware of African cultural and tribes, also African traditions. The Africans never sold their fellow Africans to be treated cruelly in the America's, they had not idea of this however due to their traditions. 

And even if they did; this still doesn't justify the cruelty that Europeans practiced on not just Africans, but Native Americans, other Non-Whites
