The owner of a large company is conducting a survey about job satisfaction, including questions about salary, hours, stress, and other conditions. There are about eight hundred employees in the company, including one hundred executive positions, six hundred fifty middle-management positions, and fifty custodial positions. The owner wants to include about ten percent of his employees in the survey sample. Identify a sampling method that would lead to a representative sample for the survey. Explain why it would be a good choice and give details about the process.

I'm not sure...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I don't understand it...

OpenStudy (igreen):

Okay, first it says he wants to take 10%..and there are 800 people.. So what's 10% of 800?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

790

OpenStudy (igreen):

No..

OpenStudy (anonymous):

-79

OpenStudy (igreen):

You just subtracted 10 from 800. 10% is the same thing as 0.10 'of' means multiplication..so therefore 10% of 800 is the same thing as 0.10 * 800

OpenStudy (anonymous):

80

@iGreen

OpenStudy (igreen):

Yes..and now we find 10% of each employee group. Executive Positions: 100 Middle-Management Positions: 650 Custodial Positions: 50 So find 10% of all three of those numbers.

OpenStudy (igreen):

0.10 * 100 0.10 * 650 0.10 * 50

OpenStudy (igreen):

Tell me what you get for all 3.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

0.10*100=10 0.10*650=65 0.10*60=5

OpenStudy (igreen):

Yep. So he should survey 10 people in the executive position, 65 people in the middle-management position, and 5 people in the custodial position. 10 + 65 + 5 = 80 people surveyed, which is 10% of all the employees.

thank u

OpenStudy (igreen):

No problem.
