How has terrorism changed the face of war in the 21st century?

It has developed an entirely new system of war. Terrorism now advances a group of people to strike another because of either hatred towards the country or religious beliefs. Before, war was mainly known as two sides declaring war on each other. With the occurrence of 9/11, terrorism was brought to complete awareness (especially to the American people.) And thus, created a whole new "war" for the U.S. which consisted of the War on Terrorism.
