Actually @confluxepic helped a lot. What the page points out without even having to delve to far into its contents is the fact that the 1880s was a time of growing economic prosperity which influenced the wealth of the overall population. Since the 1880s were apart of the Gilded Age, many jobs in America were paying a higher income than in many European countries, causing large amounts of immigrants to come for jobs. Not only did the majority of the population have enough money to spend on fashion, causing a higher demand, I would imagine that immigrants from various countries would also greatly influence the fashions of the day.
