Knowledge of Christianity spread deep into the Arabian peninsula, eventually influencing Islam. Persecution of Christians increased in the eastern half of the Roman Empire because of its rapid spread. Western Christian missionaries settled and married indigenous women in southwestern and eastern Asia.
