Am I doing this correctly? QUESTION: Complete the square in the quadratic function f given by f(x) = 2x2 - 6x + 4? ANSWER: f(x) = 2(x2 - 3x) + 4 : factor 2 out in the first two terms = 2(x2 - 3x + (-3/2)2 - (-3/2)2) + 4 : add and subtract (-3/2)2 = 2(x - 3/2))2 + 17/2 : complete square and group like terms.

looks good to me

OpenStudy (danjs):

you did it right

OpenStudy (danjs):

x squared -- x^2

Thank you so much

OpenStudy (anonymous):

the second line has some error..... {2(x2 - 3x + (-3/2)2 - (-3/2)2) + 4} -3x..... it should come from 2*a*b.....so a=x, you need b=?.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

2ab=-3x 2xb=-3x b=-3/2

OpenStudy (anonymous):

2(x^2-3/2x+(-3/2)^2-(-3/2)^2)+4 2(x^2-3/2x+9/4-9/4)+4 2(x^2-3/2x+9/4)-2*9/4+4 2(x-3/2)^2-18/4+4*(4/4) 2(x-3/2)^2+(-18+16)/4 2(x-3/2)^2-1/2
