What does "No taxation without representation in Parliament" mean?

OpenStudy (samanthagreer):

the colonists were not able to make laws because they were not represented in the british parliament. so they felt they should not be allowed to be taxed because they had no one in parliament to stand up for them. this is like the US government trying to tax puerto rico because PR has no senators or members of the house
