I need help in understanding this type of problem. WILL MEDAL Triangle UVW is similar to triangle XYZ. What is the length YZ? Round to the nearest tenth. http://www.thelearningodyssey.com/Assess/DPT/QIEImagesStorage/AQ13G/AQ13GE_GE538_17_stem1_2.jpg

I need the steps taken to so i know how to do future probs

Please and thank you!

OpenStudy (mrnood):

If they are similar then the have the same 'proportions' the ratio of corresponding edges remains the same if triangles are similar you can see that UW/VW = 22/15 SO XZ/YZ= 22/15 so 10/YZ =22/15 so you can solve YZ

6.8?

I think?

OpenStudy (mrnood):

that's the correct equation - just solve for x - I am not going to verify the answer - you should have confidence to solve it.

OpenStudy (mathmate):

@ardentpikachu If you are not sure of your answer, you can always do a check by calculating each side of the equation and see if they come out equal. Left side: \(\large \frac{22}{15}=?\) right side: \(\large \frac{10}{x}=?\) If they come out equal, your solution is correct.
