Is a origin like a root word?

@perl

OpenStudy (geneticrockhopper247):

Unless I am misunderstanding the question, an origin is more like the word's history. The origin tells what language the word comes from and how the word evolved over the course of time. For example, the origin of the word origin is as follows: "early 16th century: from French origine, from Latin origo, origin-, from oriri ‘to rise.’"
