Last week, Dirk jumped Y inches in the long jump. This week, he increased the length of his jump by 10%. If this week, he jumped 143 inches, how far did he jumped last week? a) Draw a model B) Write an equation to answer the question c) solve for the unknown d) Write a statement stating the answer to the question

OpenStudy (dtan5457):

10% of 143 is?

OpenStudy (dtan5457):

Simply add that number to 143

OpenStudy (anonymous):

y + 0.1y = 143

OpenStudy (perl):

last week he jumped y inches this week he jumped (1 + 10/100)*y inches

OpenStudy (anonymous):

y is the number of inches he jump last week 0.1y is the number of inches he gained this week 143 is the total number inches he gained this week

OpenStudy (anonymous):

hence the equation would be: y + 0.1y = 143 Side Note: 0.1 = 10%

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Okay, I did that and I got 128.7 inches. Hence, Dirk jumped 128.7 inches last week. But what is meant by draw a model?
