OpenStudy (aamirgsen):

How would I write that a character is actually a mute and can't speak but is very vocal? Like "silent but loud" or something... All help appreciated!! EDIT: he's also paralyzed, he can only convey his feelings through his eyes.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

are you writing a paper?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@Aamirgsen

OpenStudy (solomonzelman):

you can't do it explicitly?

OpenStudy (solomonzelman):

I mean to say that he is not physically capable of talking (explicitly), but to say that he is very "local" by showing this in the way (s)he is acting in (some time frames of) the story

OpenStudy (solomonzelman):

or do you you need just a bunch of synonyms?

OpenStudy (geneticrockhopper247):

Um...even though his silence was deafening, his eyes had the ability to communicate everything his mouth couldn't say.

OpenStudy (solomonzelman):

yes, very good example, but one thing, I would use his actions instead of eyes.

OpenStudy (solomonzelman):

or use both his actions and his eyes.

OpenStudy (aamirgsen):

@ScarlettGrace<3 yup

OpenStudy (aamirgsen):

@geneticrockhopper247 I think that sounds good but it needs to be more in title format and like not in a sentence

OpenStudy (aamirgsen):

@SolomonZelman I really have no idea what you said there but for the second thing he's paralyzed so he can't use his actions.

OpenStudy (aamirgsen):

oh I should've wrote that actually oops

OpenStudy (solomonzelman):

I can somewhat see paralyzed, but that would mean he can't move his entire body (just look with his eyes to different directions), which is apparently not so in your case.

OpenStudy (aamirgsen):

@SolomonZelman sorry I need to specify more lol he cannot move at all only his eyes.

OpenStudy (solomonzelman):

oh, if he can only move his eyes, then the explicit word would be paralyzed.

OpenStudy (solomonzelman):

are you writing a book?

OpenStudy (geneticrockhopper247):

So, are you shooting more for a title of a book or for a character description? @Aamirgsen

OpenStudy (aamirgsen):

@geneticrockhopper247 actually the title of a paper, it's in MLA format you see

OpenStudy (geneticrockhopper247):

Okay, so just to clarify, the paper is about a mute, paralyzed person and, with the title, you are trying to communicate how he could still communicate. Am I right thus far?

OpenStudy (aamirgsen):

@geneticrockhopper247 yes, he communicates with his eyes by like blinking but that's basically all he can do.

OpenStudy (geneticrockhopper247):

Hmm, I would go for something like "Unspoken Volumes" or something like that, creating an oxymoron. Maybe something talking about all the world in the blink of an eye would be appropriate.
