how far apart they are has nothing to do with what time it is *now*, just like how far it is from your house to school has nothing to do with where you are standing!

forget 4pm for now. look at the chart. look at the *numbers* of the time zones (colored sections)

i am getting the one from my teacher and two from the map my teacher gives me 4am for louisiana so look for 4am or 4 over on the left which it (-4) then i find tokyo time zone look at the time which it +9 then i subtract -4-9=-13

-4 means that if it the time is 4 hours before whatever time it is in the middle (called the Prime "Meridian")
If it is noon on the Prime Meridian, then it is 4 hours before noon (8:00am) in the -4 time zone
