Anyone familiar with the site Brainly.com ? Is it a rival for OpenStudy?
"There are edtech startups all over the world, and Brainly is one of them, based in Poland. We had the chance to speak with Michał Borkowski, CEO of Brainly, the company that develops and provides a social learning network platform, enabling students to collaborate and exchange their learning experience and skills."
Yeah, it looks like copy of openstudy.com. Infact they too use owls!
yea heard of it. its almost like openstudy right?
I don't know. That is why I am asking. Use of the site appears to be free. http://edtechtimes.com/2014/01/09/qa-michal-borkowski-ceo-brainly/
just looked at it they have owls!
but it seems like its not as much fun as openstudy.
Openstudy is far way better then brainly.com. @TheEdwardsFamily @Directrix @Abhisar
@MARC_ I know
OpenStudy launched in 2010. Brainly launched in 2009. We are technically copies of them.
One time i ask a question in brainly.com,it took about 50 minutes to get an answer.
wow
>>>Openstudy is far way better then brainly.com @MARC_ Could you be more specific with details? Thanks.
@just_one_last_goodbye knows about brainly.
I used to have an account on that site. That site is not so good compared to this site because: 1. Mods from that site keeps deleting answers without explaining why it is being deleted or which part of your answer is not right. Sometimes they will delete your answers so that they (or their friends) can answer and earn points. 2. Giving direct answers are allowed, so I can say that it is not really a "study site". It's more of like an answers bank. 3. No Drawing tool = boring 4. NO preview of posts, so you can not really use latex properly.You have to depend on the eqn button to make sure you're typing the equations correctly. 5. The site is not very friendly PERIOD! -.- However, some of its features are good such as: 1. Ranking system, which encourages the users to help. 2. Different categories of questions (you can choose Unanswered questions). 3. You can attached file with your question post. 4. No issue of medal partying. Your hardwork really counts which is seen through your points. 5. It loads very quickly and it is compatible with any devices you use. 6. Not very addicting because they don't have chat boxes. (not sure if this is a good thing or a bad thing lol) There are plenty more comparisons between OS and Brainly, but I would prefer OS because of its friendly atmosphere.
One thing: I doubt Brainly's CEO interacts with its users on it like Preetha does with us :)
True. Suggestions and feedback are not even welcome on that site.
I was summoned @e.mccormick Yes I was a Mod in Brainly for about 2 months till my IP ban on here had stopped working for some reason and since to keep ur mod tools u had to be active, I resigned and they deleted my brainly account :/ just cause I resigned now im IP banned on Brainly.
Sorry that all this banning went on for you. I was searching for a problem I had worked on OS and the Brainly site came up. I was wondering what it was. Now, I know. During my short sojourn there, I saw some of the same questions there as are posted on OS. A mod person jumped on the screen and asked if I needed help. I don't know how many people were online at the time nor if it is possible to "see" them. One question I would like to ask is this: Is there any semblance of rancor among the users on Brainly? @just_one_last_goodbye
No just barely anyone stays in the site since its worst that Yahoo answers, has raw text, you can talk to other users but whats the point if the users leave within a day. The longest one that has stayed is an admin that has that squirrel from Ice age the melt down pic on his profile. Also my friend @Brainybeauty was also a mod on Brainly she and I met on there since we were both mods and I encouraged her to come to Open Study ^-^ But there was one thing that Brainly did have, It was control over its users and had a very strict CoC that within an 30 min. a mod would look into problems caused on there.
LOL XD i remember when I was told to take care of a problem when OS users where signing up for OS and they started spamming it with inappropriate things /.\ I even still remember the users it was @RyGuy and @ShadowLegendX
@Directrix I was only there for 2 months but If my memory isn't failing me I think they had monthly maintenance of the site but at times that barely anyone was on.
But the site never had problem was always functioning greatly.
Agreed idk which was better cause a user on Yahoo answer can only post once on each post and cant talk to other users.
I think OS is a more modern view of Brainly.
I saw that website a long time ago. It's mascot is also an owl.
Ive been on it before and OpenStudy is alot better Brainly.com is a big remake of this
"OpenStudy has spent the past five years building a community of learners from around the world" http://pando.com/2012/08/02/openstudy-catapults-learning-with-cash/ Published in 2012, so OS would be 2008. This one says 2009: http://sibm.co/2013/02/19/openstudy-helping-students-around-the-world-to-connect-share-and-learn/ The site's copyright says 2009. So I am betting in 2008 that OS was more a Georgia Tech idea and in 2009 it became something real. That puts the lanunch dates very close to each other.
I think that brainly is wayyy bigger than OS, and is more developed....and is less of a social site and more of a work site....
@omarbirjas Actually, it is less of a work site and more of an answer site. Several people from here have tried it and commented on how they are told not to try and tutor people. Instead, they are supposed to just give a detailed answer and move on.
Thats what i meant.....lol X3
but umm....80% get an answer within 10 mins? Im sorry, but i smell something nasteh....
@omarirjas I don't think it's totally true to be honest, but I tried brainly for a while and surprisingly big part of my questions got responds quite quickly, can't say it was faster or slower than 10min but quite fast tho. Also I've made some research and I found brainly.co due to what they are saying there (if it's true) they are reaching 40mm users monthly so I think they are much bigger than OS, and on wikipedia I found info that brainly is aviaible in 13 languages and they are in more than 35 countries which is amazing I think. From personal experience I know that if OS fail due to some crashes (which happened recently very often to me) I still can receive help from brainly instead.
lol poor people
