OpenStudy (anonymous):

if the total income generated from gasoline for aer was 408 million, how much would be the cost for a barrel of gasoline. It's a pie chart. gasoline 34% Kerosene 14% lubricated oil 4% Other products 18% Diesel 29% A.) $16, b.) $18, c.) $20, d.)$ 22, e.) $24

OpenStudy (danjs):

The total income from gasoline was 408 million Gasoline is 34% of the products from oil?

OpenStudy (danjs):

All those percents add up to 110%, hmm

OpenStudy (anonymous):

No, it's pie chart, with gasoline at 34% kerosene 14%, lubricating at 15% Other products 18% and Diesel at 29%, they want to know the cost of a barrel of gasoline since the total income for gasoline from aer the company was 408 million

OpenStudy (danjs):

That pie chart adds up to 110%, is that right?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I'm not adding the percentages, the only answers that are available are the ones from A-E on the multiple choice that I showed.

OpenStudy (danjs):

Right, i am just saying, a pie chart totals 100%, and all those pieces of the pie add up to more than 100%

OpenStudy (anonymous):

OpenStudy (anonymous):

That alone should help

OpenStudy (danjs):

alright, yeah you mistyped it

OpenStudy (anonymous):

What did I type wrong?

OpenStudy (danjs):

and the 60 million total barrels is important too. One of the percents was typed wrong, it adds to 100 from the web page now

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Okay, I see.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So how do I solve this?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I Need to know how as soon as possible.

OpenStudy (danjs):

ok i see now

OpenStudy (danjs):

the pie chart represents 60 million barrels 34% of that 60 million = 20.4 million barrels of gasoline If they made 408 million from gasoline, and 20.4 million barrels were made, the money per barrel is: 408/20.4 = 20 dollars per barrel of gasoline

OpenStudy (danjs):

understand that?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yeah, I understand thank you for your help.

OpenStudy (danjs):

34% of 60,000,000 barrels CRUDE OIL = 20,400,000 barrels of GASOLINE 408,000,000 dollars made from GASOLINE \[\frac{ 408,000,000~dollars ~from ~Gasoline }{ 20,400,000~Barrels~Gasoline } = \frac{ 20 ~dollars }{ ~barrel ~of ~gasoline }\]

OpenStudy (danjs):

welcome, anytime

OpenStudy (anonymous):

One more quick question, 700k in tons would be how many tons???

OpenStudy (danjs):

i was just confused at first, cuz the 60 million total barrels wasnt included in the question

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yeah, sorry about that.

OpenStudy (danjs):

700,000 what? pounds, kilograms?

OpenStudy (danjs):

a metric ton is different from a US ton

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Well, I'm going to show you what I did I did 25,000,000, * 28 %

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Then hit the percents sign and get 700k, did I do it right?

OpenStudy (danjs):

oh, you dont have to convert units here

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I use to be excellent at math, just had bad teachers for the last few years, so I'm behind.

OpenStudy (danjs):

25.0 million tons x 0.28 = 7 million tons

OpenStudy (danjs):

28% = 0.28

OpenStudy (danjs):

move the decimal over 2 spaces to change a percent to a decimal number

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so I had the right method okay, nice. I redid the work, and got 7million don't know how I got 700k

OpenStudy (danjs):

just one factor of 10 off. lol

OpenStudy (danjs):

you can add me as a fan if you want, i am usually on here at least once per day

OpenStudy (danjs):

now sure if you know, you can type @DanJS to get my attention

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Sweet, became a fan.

OpenStudy (danjs):

cool, thanks, feel free to bother me whenever

OpenStudy (anonymous):

lol
