How can I emit a electrical wave through an object without using a conducter
what do you mean by emit a electrical wave??
I want to do a science project by emitting electrical waves though compact dirt and seeing how it changes when I shake the dirt to predict earthquakes
but if i emit the wave by a conducter through the dirt then won't the conducter help the electricity from going through the dirt?
I don't get how do you expect that "electric wave" would be affected by shacking dirt? I really don't know what is electric wave I think you mean electric field.
I will have a controlled voltage and a monitor telling me how much of the voltage, resistance is changing
with dirt in the middle of the two and when it shakes, my hypothesis is that it will let more electricity through
OK .What a hypothesis! You make electricity move through air using high voltage .All isolators have break down voltage at which they cannot resist more. Can you clear more what do mean by electricity through(for high voltage it will be a spark).
Thanks!!!
Hey HV is dangerous and you aren't used to it, so don't do it alone. I got a huge amount of shocks until I knew how to avoid them. make one out of batteries not from your main plug.
my source is a battery but i need the electricity to travel through the dirt, to the monitor, but the thing is, if I put a conductor through the dirt then it will guide the electricity so i'm trying to avoid using a conductor
I don't know if you're still looking for an answer for this, but no electric current generated by a few batteries is going to go through dirt. The electrical resistivity of dirt is enormous, and is comparable to deionized water. The only way you'll get an appreciable amount of current to flow is if you have a tiny, tiny layer of dirt, but that will eliminate the possibility of shaking it.
I don`t know if you`re going to read this Jemurray3 but wouldnt the resistivity be the same of a retangular prism and a thinner rectangular prism if inputed from the side
and if it does`nt work then what do you think I should do, sorry, I can type question marks because it just inputs a É...
Resistivity is a property of the material, and doesn't depend on the shape or size of the object in question. My point was that trying to get current to flow through dirt, regardless of how it's arranged, is more or less the same as trying to get current to flow through a similarly-designed container of deionized water, which is almost impossible for the kinds of voltages you'd be dealing with. Since I don't know anything about the criteria for the project I can't really help you in making a selection, but I would highly advise you to go with a different option than the one you've mentioned here.
Thanks man, I would give you a medal, but i already gave one out. I`m actually doing science fair if you know what that is, so I have to do a experiment that is useful in the real world. So, I could do anything. But thanks for the feedback, Ill revise on that.
