What is the equation of the graph below? https://vcsohio.brainhoney.com/Resource/22138800,AB4,0,B,7/Assets/72147_53b5ab10/0001g_36.gif

y = - (x - 3)2 + 1 y = - (x + 3)2 + 1 y = (x - 3)2 - 1 y = (x + 3)2 - 1

OpenStudy (kamibug):

Vertex form is a(x - h)^2 +k where (h, k) is the vertex. "a" is going to be positive b/c the parabola opens upward, so we can cross out A and B.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so we write h = 3 and k = -1 as the vertex is (-3,-1)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So, a(x-3)^2-1?

OpenStudy (kamibug):

Remember 2 negatives make a positive. The 3 is negative and there is a minus sign in the equation as well, therefore h = +3

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Oh. What's next?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I know it's not B.

OpenStudy (kamibug):

In which of the options is "a" positive and h = +3 and k = -1? :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

:O oh lol thanks!

OpenStudy (kamibug):

Sure! =]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I GOT A 100% ON MY SEGMENT EXAM!!!

OpenStudy (kamibug):

YAY! :D
