OpenStudy (juana02):

Determine whether each set is finite or infinite. The set of fractions between 1 and 2.

OpenStudy (cwrw238):

what do you think:- suppose we take 2 fraction between 1 and 2 1/b and 1/ c we can find another fraction half way between these 2 = (b + c)/ 2bc. Then if we like find another fraction between 1/b and the last fraction or between 1/c and that fraction and carry on in a similar way ad infinitum

OpenStudy (cwrw238):

- actually i just realised I'v dealt with fractions between 0 and 1 in my last post

OpenStudy (cwrw238):

but the same reasoning applies to fractions between any 2consecutive integers

Directrix (directrix):

I responded to the same question by the OP yesterday. Maybe a stronger hint is needed http://openstudy.com/users/juana02#/updates/54a405d6e4b0b8a54fb09452

OpenStudy (juana02):

yes

Directrix (directrix):

@juana02 Are you thinking finite or infinite on this question?

OpenStudy (juana02):

both

Directrix (directrix):

The set cannot be both finite and infinte.

OpenStudy (juana02):

the question is asking to determine if set is finite or infinite?

Directrix (directrix):

Yes.

OpenStudy (juana02):

can you help me find the set of fractions betwwen 1 and 2?

Directrix (directrix):

There is no way to list all of them because the set is ___?_____
