as a tremendous string around her, holding her togeth

What does this simile represent in the poem?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

awareness of a woman's pain willingness to take a chance aspects of a Mexican identity similarities between two cultures

OpenStudy (calculusxy):

Is it "as a tremendous strong around her, holding her together?"

OpenStudy (calculusxy):

I just wanted to make sure if that was the simile that you wrote because I don't think "together" was completely spelled or was it something else.

OpenStudy (calculusxy):

If that is the sentence then I think that it will be the first sentence in the list because a string holding someone together, must be something painful. Even though a women wants to let go of her pain, she seems to be held back from doing it because of the "string." Thinking about all of the other options... It doesn't seem like they are referring to anything of a string, at least not explicitly enough.

Yeah thats the sentence
