During photosynthesis, the energy from sunlight is used to split water molecules. What happens to the hydrogen ions that are split from the water molecules? a. they build up in the thylakoid b. they are given off in the form of gas c. they bond to each other to create ATP d. they release energy for other processess
Welcome to OpenStudy :) What do you think it should be?
Well I was thinking it could be either B or D but I always get confused with this question, (trying to study for mid terms next week)
ok, what happens actually is that Photolysis (splitting with the help of sunlight energy) of water takes place in the lumen of thylakoid. The protons (H+ ions) produced by the process accumulates inside the lumen and thus increases the concentration of H+ which in turn contributes in the creation of concentration gradient across the thylakoid membrane.
Ohh okay that makes more sense now that it was explained, thank you. :)
Welcome, so now can you choose the correct option?
A

Thanks for helping me :)
Happy to Help :)
