Can someone plz help me better understand how to construct a linkage map?
i give medals. lol
Morgan's student Alfred Sturtevant had also experimented with fruit flies because wanted to find more information about linked genes and crossing over. He then found that the farther apart the genes are on a chromosome, the more likely it is that crossing over occurs, meaning a higher frequency of recombination. To put his information to the test, Alfred Sturtevant constructed linkage maps to show the frequency of genes crossing over. They also show the relative positions of genes on a chromosome based on how often the genes are inherited together. What I mean by this is that the more distance between the genes on the map, the higher the frequency that they cross over; the closer they are to each other, the lower the cross over rate. Hope this helps! :)
