Why is the Exxon Valdez significant? It was the oil rig responsible for the spill in the Gulf of Mexico that continues to plague many U.S. businesses. It was an oil tanker that caused one of the worst oil spills in U.S. history, leading to the building of double-hulled ships. It was the oil rig that built many drills around the waters of Alaska which were specially designed to prevent dangerous spills. It was the oil tanker that spilled great amounts of oil into Prince William Sound and led to the end of all oil drilling there.

OpenStudy (solomonzelman):

A is most accurate, oil tanker caused one of the worst spills in US history and double hulled tankers were one of the results. (Double hulls were already in use, more or less, but the US made it a requirement for tankers doing business with US ports.)
