2. Evaluate the expression for a = –1 and b = 5. Show your work. 5a – 7b + b^2

OpenStudy (yanasidlinskiy):

Plug it in. 5(-1) - 7(5) + (5)2 Solve. What do you get?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

5X(-1)-7X5+5X2=-30 ???

OpenStudy (yanasidlinskiy):

There is NO X's! All you have to do is replace the variables with the Numbers. Like I showed you above. 5(-1) - 7(5) + 5^2. Sorry I misread it. But this is the correct way. Do you know how to solve?

OpenStudy (michele_laino):

please, substitute -1 in place of a, and 5 in place of b

OpenStudy (anonymous):

-15

OpenStudy (michele_laino):

that's right!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Thank you

OpenStudy (michele_laino):

OpenStudy (yanasidlinskiy):

You got it!
