sqrt of 42?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

is sqrt 42?

OpenStudy (phebe):

Answer is 6.48^0

OpenStudy (phebe):

the full answer would be this 6.4807406984078602e0 but only put 6.48^0 okay

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Not what I'm looking for. Since the original question is: \[\sqrt{168} = 2\sqrt{42}?\]

OpenStudy (phebe):

ohh well u want me to answer is for you?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

To simplify square roots, you need to factor into primes

OpenStudy (phebe):

well the statement is true an you have to simplify to get that answer which is what i did

OpenStudy (phebe):

Do u need anything else?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I was wondering if 42 can't be simplified further since I should present it as sqrts.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Just confirming my answer.

OpenStudy (phebe):

you can simplify 42 , 42 can be simplified

OpenStudy (anonymous):

okay, please simplify it. I already tried prime factoring. Just wondering if I got my math wrong.

OpenStudy (phebe):

okay

OpenStudy (anonymous):

\[\sqrt{4(42)}\]

OpenStudy (phebe):

wait i thought u wanted 42 simplified?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

\[\sqrt{168} = \sqrt{4(42)} = 2\sqrt{42}\]

OpenStudy (phebe):

well the answer to sqrt4(42) is 84 okay

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@Phebe I guess multiplication isn't as good.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

\(168=2^3\cdot 3\cdot 7 = (2)^2\cdot (2\cdot 3\cdot 6)\)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

You can pull out the \(2\), but the rest has to remain inside the square root.

OpenStudy (phebe):

yea @wio i told him that was the answer

OpenStudy (phebe):

ohh nvm no i didnt

OpenStudy (phebe):

well did u get what u needed? @Sadworld

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yeah, thanks.
