What is the y-intercept of the line described by the equation below? y = -5x + 7

Nnesha (nnesha):

y = mx + b here b is y-interecpet

Nnesha (nnesha):

what is b in your equation ??? you already now slope is m which is always with

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so its 7

Nnesha (nnesha):

yesh

OpenStudy (solomonzelman):

y-intercept is when \(\large\color{slate}{ x=0 }\) and therefore, when ever you have: \(\large\color{slate}{ y=mx+b }\), then \(\large\color{slate}{ b }\) is the y-intercept. because when you set \(\large\color{slate}{ x=0 }\), you remain with just the \(\large\color{slate}{ b }\).

thank you

OpenStudy (solomonzelman):

You are welcome!

Nnesha (nnesha):

my pleasure :)
