Find the Surface Area of the Prism

OpenStudy (ayee_ciera):

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yay more EZ questions :D

OpenStudy (acxbox22):

find the area of all the faces and add them up for surface area

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok what is the base times height for the triangles on the sides

OpenStudy (ayee_ciera):

15 and 8 are the base and height

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok now multiply those together and well get the area for both of the triangle sides

OpenStudy (anonymous):

then we have the back face of the prism which would be 8*5=?

OpenStudy (ayee_ciera):

40

OpenStudy (anonymous):

now we have to find the area of the bottom and top faces their dimensions being 15*5 and 17*5

OpenStudy (ayee_ciera):

15*5=75 17*5=85

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Then add up the areas of all the sides and you'll get the lateral area of the prisim!

OpenStudy (acxbox22):

15 x 8 + 15 x 8 + 8 x 5 + 15 x 5 + 17 x 5 = ??

OpenStudy (ayee_ciera):

518

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So you do \[120+40+75+85=?\] and you'll have the area of the prisim

OpenStudy (ayee_ciera):

=320

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yep thats right! :D

OpenStudy (acxbox22):

no you have to add 120 twice cuz there are two of them

OpenStudy (ayee_ciera):

can u help me with some more

OpenStudy (anonymous):

no when you find the area of the area of a triangle you divide i half once you do the B*H we just did the B*H and skipped dividing @acxbox22

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yah ill help with more :)

OpenStudy (ayee_ciera):

yay thank u

OpenStudy (ayee_ciera):

find the surface area

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok first lets do 8*13*2

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thats for the top and bottom faces all in one go

OpenStudy (ayee_ciera):

=208

OpenStudy (acxbox22):

Oh yeah @Ignaris i forgot thanks :P

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yep now do 7*8*2 for the left and right sides

OpenStudy (ayee_ciera):

=112

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Correct now 13*7*2 for the front and back faces

OpenStudy (ayee_ciera):

=182

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yep now add them all together and you'll have the surface area

OpenStudy (ayee_ciera):

208+112+182=502

OpenStudy (anonymous):

you got it!

OpenStudy (ayee_ciera):

find the lateral area of the cylinder

OpenStudy (ayee_ciera):

@Ignaris

OpenStudy (anonymous):

The equation for the lateral area of a Cylinder is \[A _{L}=2*\pi*r*h\] so we plug in our terms and get \[Lateral Area=2*\pi*7*9=?\]

OpenStudy (ayee_ciera):

=395.64

OpenStudy (anonymous):

your decimal is off by a bit the answer is 395.84

OpenStudy (ayee_ciera):

so if we round it then it would be 396 ??

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yep

OpenStudy (ayee_ciera):

use the net to find the lateral area of the cylinder

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Use the same base Equation we used in the last question \[Lateral Area=2*\pi*r*h\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

a net of any shape is just the shape unfolded

OpenStudy (ayee_ciera):

2*3.14*6*7

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yep

OpenStudy (ayee_ciera):

=263.76

OpenStudy (anonymous):

now round up if needed

OpenStudy (ayee_ciera):

use the net to find the surface area of the prism

OpenStudy (ayee_ciera):

@Ignaris

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok answer these seprately 1. 9*8 2. 9*15 3. 9*17 4. 8*15

OpenStudy (ayee_ciera):

1 72 2 135 3 153 4 120

OpenStudy (anonymous):

now add them all up and you'll have the lateral area of the prisim

OpenStudy (ayee_ciera):

480

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yep

OpenStudy (anonymous):

how many more?

OpenStudy (ayee_ciera):

4 more

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok lets go! :D

OpenStudy (ayee_ciera):

use the net to find the surface area of the prism

OpenStudy (anonymous):

11*6*2 8*11*2 6*8*2 do those then add them together

OpenStudy (ayee_ciera):

132+176+96= 404

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yep :D

OpenStudy (ayee_ciera):

use the net to find the surface area of the cylinder give ur answer in terms of pie

OpenStudy (anonymous):

just like before \[LateralArea=2∗π∗r∗h\]

OpenStudy (ayee_ciera):

2*3.14*5*7 = 219.8

OpenStudy (anonymous):

that rounded up is 220 :D

OpenStudy (ayee_ciera):

find the surface area

OpenStudy (anonymous):

3*4 3*12 4*12 5*12 then add them up

OpenStudy (ayee_ciera):

12+36+48+60=156

OpenStudy (anonymous):

By George hes got it!

OpenStudy (ayee_ciera):

find the surface area

OpenStudy (anonymous):

you try doing this one on your own then post the answer and ill tell you if you get it wrong. :D

OpenStudy (anonymous):

or right!

OpenStudy (ayee_ciera):

196+84+168=448

OpenStudy (anonymous):

you got it :D yay

OpenStudy (anonymous):

please close the question if you are done!

OpenStudy (ayee_ciera):

thank u for the help (:

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Your welcome :D
