are the "small matrix" you get by crossing off the row and column
of each entry in the first row

in the first row, the first element is 2
cross of the row and column that contain that 2
(that means cross of the first row, and the first column)
that leaves a little 2x2 matrix
find the determinant of that matrix. can you do that ?
