How can quickly determine the number of roots a polynomial will have by looking at the equation?

I suggest providing an example. The general rule of thumb is having all the laws of exponents memorized, prime numbers and the squares of of every number between 1-100.

Since determining the roots of polynomials is done by factoring, which requires all the three I've mentioned.
