Do you know what like terms are?
OpenStudy (anonymous):
Not really if I'm being honest
OpenStudy (eric_d):
like terms are terms that are the same..
OpenStudy (anonymous):
Okay, but I don't understand how I find my answer...I kind of had an idea of the meaning.
OpenStudy (anonymous):
so would it be A?

5,6,7
These are like terms
OpenStudy (eric_d):
Nope
OpenStudy (eric_d):
You'll need to identify like terms first
OpenStudy (anonymous):
I don't know how to do that. That is my whole problem.
OpenStudy (eric_d):
Then, add the like terms only

2x,3x, 7x .. These are like terms
OpenStudy (eric_d):
because they have the same unknown
OpenStudy (eric_d):
and
OpenStudy (eric_d):
2, 3 , 4
These are like terms
OpenStudy (igreen):
4x + 10x are like terms here..because they both have an 'x' term in it.

4x and 10x*
OpenStudy (igreen):
7 and 15 are also like terms.
OpenStudy (eric_d):
because they are coefficients/numbers
OpenStudy (igreen):
So can you combine the like terms?
4x - 10x
7 + 15
Just add and subtract.
OpenStudy (anonymous):
Okay is the answer B or D?

Like is it one of those?
OpenStudy (eric_d):
Don't guess..
OpenStudy (anonymous):
Well I'm trying my best to understand what you guys are telling me but it's getting confusing, and if I subtract 4x and 10x I' m assuming I would reverse it and get 6x and 7 + 15 is 22 so I'm pretty sure it's B or D, but I don't know if it's adding or subtracting that I'm supposed to pick.
OpenStudy (eric_d):
Okay,
next combine them
OpenStudy (anonymous):
So I add?

OpenStudy (eric_d):
wait
it's -6x!
OpenStudy (anonymous):
But that's not an option...
OpenStudy (eric_d):
4x-10x=?
OpenStudy (eric_d):
-6x rite
OpenStudy (anonymous):
Yeah but -6 isn't an option for the answers...

OpenStudy (eric_d):
So, when you combine/add -6x and 22
what should you get ?
OpenStudy (igreen):
That's just part of the answer..
\(4x - 10x \rightarrow 4 - 10 \rightarrow -6 \rightarrow -6x\)
OpenStudy (butterflydreamer):
hey :)
What about if you try to rewrite the original equation?
So the original equation says :
7 + 4x - 10x +15
Maybe you should write the like terms next to each other if it is easier for you :D
OpenStudy (eric_d):
Yeah.....
