Does this have something at all related to her diary? If it is then Anne and her father had very similar personalities in many ways, so they got along well almost from Anne's infancy. Otto had a soft spot for Anne, and Anne almost certainly realized this and responded to it. Otto is kind, patient, listens and does not interrupt, and even if he disagrees with Anne's view, he gives it proper weight. Anne's mother, the guardian of common sense and simple discipline, as one parent must be, was seen as the "adversary" by Anne.
