Embossing...
Embossing... Someone had asked me about text in gimp, but I did not get the question. However, it did get me thinking about things. Embossing and engraving does not always come out well from the gimp filters. So I decided to play a bit. #1 is the basic filter. #2 is trying to fill it in after using the filter. #3 is offset duplicates are black and white. #4 and 5 used almost the same process. First, I made the text and duplicated it one of two ways. One was a layer duplication. The other, well, in both cases I made the text to a path and the path to a selection. So I filled the selection on new layers for the other method of duplication. In both cases, I left the selection on and moved a layer a few pixels, then deleted. This cut out most of the letters. I then moved the layer back so it overlapped. Did the same thing for the other duplicate. This left hard white lines along the top and bottom of the letters that were white and black. Then I played with blur and transparency. Motion blur and Gaussian seem to do best, but I think if I do motion again I want to duplicate, then do the motion blur. That way I can stack the different direction motion blur on top of a faded original, which will make it stronger but still blurred and softer.
I think if I had grown or shrunk the selection it could have helped some with the cuts. Like shrink the selection one pixel, move the text 1 up or down and 2 to the left or right, then less oddity would have happened to the text cuts.
Yah, when I shrink the select it makes the edges of the deleted area less problemaic. The top is the original text. Next is the one with the duplicates that I used a shrunk selection to cut. The 3rd and 4th are attempts to make emboss work as either an overlay or with other options. I am still not happy. The bottom one was using the enlarged selection and more moving before deleting. The problem aras at corners get larger and I do not suggest this... but it is an interesting effect.
excuse m bu there is a error
Umm... an error in testing things out? How is that possible?
i meant to say there are some mistakes
1 2 3 numbers are not in order
:D:D:)
So? That is why I numbered them. The order of layers is immaterial. The second one I worked from top down to make it easier to describe.
Or I sohld clarify that it was immaterial for this as each new item to work on was a seperate layer stack....
hmm i wjk
Emboss.
Em-boss.
Em boss.
Emboss-->Carve.
Or stamp or mold. The goal is to make it stand out in relief. I am doing it visually, so it is an optical illusion to take on the appearance of being embossed.
OR, it is EM is the Boss, EMBoss.
```css text-shadow: -1px -1px 0px ``` See where I am going with this? Hehe. I wonder if embossing is something that would look nice under SVG... Does it scale well?
If you get it set up right, then yes, it could easily scale as a vector.
This is really helpful c:
Interesting.
Yah, there are tons of techniques like that which are older, but that can still be useful. Especially if you can't afford an expensive program to do all the work for you.
