The tables below show the values of y corresponding to different values of x: Which statement is true for the tables? Both Table A and Table B represent functions. Both Table A and Table B do not represent functions. Table A does not represent a function but Table B represents a function. Table A represents a function but Table B does not represent a function.
Do you know how to find out if a table is a function?
I think you just plot the points on a graph
Well you could do that, but a easier way is to look at your x's and y's, two x's can't be with the same y ( like (5,2) (5,6) ) however, one x, can be assigned to two y's... Does that make sense?
not really can u explain it any better
okay, in table 1, the points are (3,1) (3,0) and (2,0) Your (x) values are 3, 3, and 2. The (y) values are 1,0,0. The (x) value 3, goes to a (y) TWICE. which means its not a function because if you plot it, they would be on the same line..
OOOOOOOhhh ok what you were saying is that the x can't go into the why more than once
Right! So if two 3's go to two y's it isn't a function, do you understand now? (:
yes so do you think it would be B
But remember, one (x) CAN go with 2 (y) because they wouldn't be in a vertical line, it would be more a angle where there isn't two points in the same line. Yes, the answer would be B (:
Both Table A and Table B represent functions. Both Table A and Table B do not represent functions. Table A does not represent a function but Table B represents a function. Table A represents a function but Table B does not represent a function
thank you
