The hypothalamus releases corticotrophin-releasing hormone (CRH). CRH stimulates the pituitary gland to produce adrenocorticotropic hormone (ACTH). ACTH directs the adrenal cortex to secrete cortisol. Cortisol inhibits the hypothalamus from secreting CRH. Which of the following would most likely occur if all the cortisol produced was immediately removed from the system? ACTH production would decrease. ACTH would inhibit CRH production. CRH would restrict ACTH production. CRH production would increase.
