tips for writing a novel...
i have the ideas and im not really working on grammar at this point. I always edit so much that i get nothing truly accomplished. so i want to finish the story first. What i am struggling on is describing the background and what not. I'm writing this story in the present and its in my main characters head. i figured out how i want to do the dialogue that part was easy. but i need help in how to fit in things like what other people look like. Im really good at describing i just dont know how to incorporate it without it sounding cliche

What I do when writing in 1st person is I literally become the character. I even daydream as I write as if I were the main character. I use my surroundings as examples like if my friend or someone else is wearing something or is dressed or looks a certain way I make them a character. The background is also based on places I've been or place I want to go to. Also I edit my stories in the end. While I write I make so many mistakes but then I go back and edit also if you want you can have someone else edit it for you. Many writers/authors have editors but I prefer to do it myself. Hope I helped somewhat good luck!
@mysticghost thats basically what i do but like describing the setting and charicters is a little bit different. like when we talking in our head we dont go wow i love her dress it makes her stand out in the moonlight. pretty pathetic sentence i know but u get the point
