anyone know hard Arabic is to learn?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

it is very hard to learn becuase you read from left to right, and the letters and numbers are very different. if you were to learn 3 different words every day, you can learn the language in 6 years!

sorry, i mean you read from right to left

OpenStudy (aishanuwang):

Arabic can be a difficult language for English-speakers. The writing system, of course, is not based on a Latin alphabet, and is indeed written right to left, rather than the Western style of left to right. There are many dialects of Arabic; I speak Lebanese Arabic personally, but most teach standard Arabic rather than colloquial, dialectal Arabic. It is a widely-spoken language and learning it would be beneficial, so in the final analysis, if you believe that you have the time and resources, and are willing to apply yourself, go ahead and good luck!! :)
