Which system of inequalities corresponds to the graph of the shaded area below?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

OpenStudy (anonymous):

the graph and the answer choices are attached.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

first, we need to find the equation of the lines. the solid line passes through (-1,1) and (3,4) so its equation is y-1=(3/4)*(x+1) y = (3x/4) +1.75 can you find the dashed line equation ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

it passes through (0,2) and (1,6) right?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

you mean (2,0) and (1,6)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes, sorry i don't know why i wrote it out that way.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so our equation would be

OpenStudy (anonymous):

y=-6x+12

OpenStudy (anonymous):

?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

correct!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

now, as you can see, the shaded area is for y SMALLER than the bold line and y LARGER than the dashed line

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes i see that

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so what is the answer then ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

am i just figuring the equations out then?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i'm not sure how to solve that, i'm not getting anything close to any of the choices.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

do you understand ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh sorry !!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

OH yes i see that now, i understand.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

as i said we need larger than the dash so : y>-6x+12 and lower than the bold : y <= (3x/4) +1.75 (there is equal herre because it is bold) so it is C
